Day 2: Morton, Illinois to Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Not much excitement to share again today. It was mostly interstate again, with some 2 lane thrown in to break up the monotony.

We did swing through Wildcat Mountain State Park in Wisconsin which offered some much appreciated curves to ride. It was beautiful there, but unfortunately we didn’t get any pictures.

We left early to beat the heat and storms, and it turned out we timed things perfectly because we could see rain just East of us as we arrived at Wildcat Mountain and the road was soaked, but we didn’t get rained on. It dropped the temperature about 10 degrees, and felt fantastic. Then when we were on I-94 We could see storms off in the distance, but the temperature dropped from 89 down to 72, and it felt soooo good!

Luckily we didn’t get super hot until the last 45 minutes or so, but we were glad to get to the hotel and get our gear off.

We were starving by the time we got to the hotel, so we hurried up and got changed and walked about half a mile to Texas Roadhouse only to find out it didn’t open for another hour, so we went to the Mexican restaurant next door instead. Dwayne isn’t a big Mexican food fan, but he liked his quesadilla burger, and I loved my fish tacos and Mexican Street corn. Roble Tacos + Tequila is a good place to eat if you’re staying on the South side of Eau Claire.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day, about 530 miles from here to Bismarck, North Dakota. We are going to leave at sunrise to beat the morning rush in Minneapolis, and hopefully avoid some of the heat later in the day. We will probably grab a granola bar for breakfast and then stop somewhere past Minneapolis to eat later.
